Phil Gordon

Phil Gordon is a poker player in a class by himself; what sets him apart from his contemporaries is that he was financially secure before he ever started playing the game. Gordon was born in Texas in July 1970, and he always had a love for technology. That passion got him into Georgia Tech at fifteen, and by twenty, he had a degree in computer science.

Phil put that degree to very good use, relocating to California to work for Lockheed. After his time there was over, he became NETSYS' first employee, earning abundant stock options. When the company was bought out by Cisco for ninety-five million dollars, Gordon became an instant multimillionaire and quit his day job.

Already being set financially, Gordon decided to see the world- he visited fifty countries and five of the seven continents by the time his trip was over. Despite his wanderlust, Phil Gordon always wanted to go back home- and he came back to the US wanting to play poker. He didn't take long to crack the professional ranks- his first WSOP appearance earned him a fourth-place finish and $400,000 cash. He saw similar success in 2002's WSOP- making it to two final tables (Omaha eights or better and pot limit hold 'em).

Another notable achievement for Gordon was winning the World Poker Tour Bay 101 Shooting Stars tournament. Because of his success at the table, Phil decided to write poker strategy books. Not only is he an accomplished player and published author, Phil Gordon is a commentator on the Bravo Network's Celebrity Poker Showdown.

Gordon is also known for his height; he stands six feet, nine inches tall, usually making him the tallest person at the table. In his spare time, Gordon is a cancer research supporter, living in Las Vegas with his family.
